June 2025, Detroit – Michigan’s temperatures have been consistently below freezing levels throughout the month of June, according to the state's meteorological department.
The lowest temperature recorded in Michigan during June was -20°C (-28°F), which is significantly lower than the average low of -5°C (-41°F).
This marks the first time since 2019 that the state has experienced such extreme cold conditions in June. The National Weather Service confirmed the anomaly in their reports.
"This is an unprecedented event in the state's climate history," said Dr. Linda Kessler, director of the Michigan State University Environmental Research Division. "The combination of prolonged cold spells and unpredictable weather patterns is causing significant challenges across multiple sectors."
Residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Local governments have implemented emergency protocols to manage the impact of the severe cold.
